FTP Tutorial
|
When you sign up for FRTCI Internet Services you receive a personal user directory on the FRTCI Server. Once the directory is on the server you can transfer files to and from your directory with an FTP utility.
There are numerous FTP utilities available for download on the Internet. If you are using the Internet Toolkit, WSFTP Pro is already installed on your computer. The screen shots that are contained in this tutorial are from "CuteFTP v2.8". CuteFTP is user friendly and has an easy to follow graphical interface. A CuteFTP 30 day evaluation is available from Globalscape.
All FTP utilities are basically the same as far as functionality is concerned. The only difference will be the actual graphical interface. For any FTP utility you will need the following information:- Site label or profile:
- This will be the name of the profile you are creating within the FTP utility. You can name this anything you like (i.e. My Web Site).
- Host address:
- If you are transferring files to your FRTCI personal web space, the host address will be ftp.frtci.net (all lowercase).
- User ID:
This will be your User Name for FRTCI (all lowercase). - Password:
- If you are logging into FRTCI's server this is your login password (all uppercase).
- Login Type:
- Ensure that the login type is set to Normal not Anonymous.
- Host Type:
- Ensure that the host type is set to Auto-Detect or Unix Standard.
